"Rise" was written around November 1998 and featured on my first consciously political album, "Slack Society", which was named after a lyric from an Asian Dub Foundation song. This remake is the one which has strayed furthest away from the original, which was a pretty sparse jungle-ish tune with some vague gestures towards the epic. Oddly though, it's also the one which has the most direct samples and recreations of elements of the original. It's just that I took them in a different direction and lost the epic pretensions. I like the result, but it is still basically a different song altogether from the original.
